Making sense of concepts in foundational ontology

We look at foundational aspects in data and ontology alignment. We begin with a simple scenario to introduce a contextual distinction between concepts and categories, and then use it to discuss a proposal to integrate concepts in a given ontology. This method complements standard approaches which usually rely on syntactical, statistical and/or semantical methods.

The goal of the talk is to show that a foundational perspective can help to change the way we look at known problems, and may lead to new opportunities to solve them.
